FERPA Privacy

The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 (“FERPA”) grants WVU student’s rights to privacy over their education records. FERPA was designed to do four things:

  1. protect the privacy of education records,
  2. establish the right of students to inspect and review their education records,
  3. provide guidelines for the correction of inaccurate or misleading data through informal and formal hearings, and
  4. establish the rights of students to control who is authorized to view their information, unless it falls under one of the exceptions.
