The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 (“FERPA”) grants WVU student’s rights to privacy over their education records. FERPA was designed to do four things:
- protect the privacy of education records,
- establish the right of students to inspect and review their education records,
- provide guidelines for the correction of inaccurate or misleading data through informal and formal hearings, and
- establish the rights of students to control who is authorized to view their information, unless it falls under one of the exceptions.
