With a successful pilot and the migration of WVU Online programs now completed, Information Technology Services and the Office of the Provost are ready to begin the broader rollout of eCampus Ultra, the newest version of the Blackboard/Anthology platform.
Most eCampus courses will need to be copied to or rebuilt in Ultra by Fall 2025, and eCampus Original will be retired at the end of the Spring 2026 semester, or when the vendor stops providing updates. By Summer 2026, all eCampus courses should be in Ultra. This timeline gives instructors, departments and colleges two years to plan their transition.
Instructors can submit a request for an Ultra development shell (log in with your primary WVU email account to view the content) at any time to begin familiarizing themselves with Ultra. Be sure to add the word “Ultra” under Special Instructions on the request form. Creating a new development shell may take 3-5 business days, depending on the demand.
Requesting a development shell does not obligate you to teach in Ultra for Spring 2025. However, any course materials built in a development shell can be copied to a production shell for Spring 2025 if you request the production shell by Friday, Nov. 1. Additional details on how to request an Ultra production shell will be shared soon.
Blackboard/Anthology is now providing only essential updates to eCampus Original. To benefit from the modern Ultra experience, ITS recommends migrating courses as soon as feasible. This will also help reduce the time students must work in both versions of eCampus.
