Perpetual License vs. Subscription License
A Perpetual license allows you to use the software you purchased indefinitely. To upgrade to a newer version you need to purchase a new license.
A Subscription License is available for the term of the agreement. During this time you can upgrade to any new versions that are released, but once the subscription is complete you can no longer use the software.
The Subscription license is prorated quarterly and will be purchased for the balance of the 3 year agreement that expires June 30, 2018.
Due to the renewal requirements for Microsoft at the end of each fiscal year, there will be a blackout period from May 19th to June 30th, during which the Subscription version of Visio will be unavailable for purchase.
