West Virginia University is committed to ensuring the quality of its academic programs, its teaching and the learning experience for students. Student Evaluation of Instruction (SEI) gives faculty a tool to solicit anonymous feedback from students.

WVU changed to a new SEI tool in 2016, with a few key changes:
  • SEIs will be delivered online with a mobile-friendly survey application. Students can complete the survey during class using a smart phone, tablet or laptop OR out of class anytime the survey is open.
  • Default surveys are created for all courses, but instructors may “Opt Out” if their college or department does not require the use of SEI.
  • University-wide standard questions have been approved by the Faculty Senate, along with a basic structure of the survey.
Within the SEI system, you can personalize questions, change the survey delivery mode and adjust the survey open/close dates for student responses. For more information on the SEI system and process, please click the SEI – FAQ box above.

NOTE: The old Electronic Student Evaluation of Instruction tool (eSEI) is no longer available for survey delivery or ordering. Previous reports from eSEI will remain available for retrieval for a while longer; instructors are strongly encouraged to download any old SEI reports that they wish to keep. You can still access the old eSEI system at for reports prior to Spring Break 2016.

Instructors who want to save previous reports or store them in Digital Measures are encouraged to do so. The old eSEI system eventually will be decommissioned, but no date has been set. Support is available, and technical questions may be directed to
