Password changes, account claiming won’t be available at login.wvu.edu June 29-July 1

Faculty, staff and students on all campuses will be unable to change passwords from Saturday, June 29 through Monday, July 1 during a critical upgrade to login.wvu.edu. New employees and newly admitted students also will be unable to claim accounts during this period.

This planned outage won’t prevent you from logging into WVU systems such as the Portal or using Duo two-factor authentication. You will still be able to generate Duo bypass codes at login.wvu.edu and perform other tasks while the work is being completed. Full functionality will be restored sometime Tuesday, July 2.

Information Technology Services is replacing the software behind login.wvu.edu because the previous vendor is no longer in business. This change will require you to claim your account in the new systems the first time your password expires after July 2.

You must accept a responsibility statement and pass a five-question cybersecurity quiz to claim your account and reset your password. Your password will then be good for one year.

The new Login site also will let you unlock your own account or reset your password using a recovery (non-WVU) email address or a mobile phone number, just as you do with the online services you use in your personal life. This self-help feature should mean fewer calls to the ITS Service Desk and a faster return to productivity.
