WVU Research Computing is hosting a free High Performance Computing (HPC) Summer Institute at One Waterfront Place in Morgantown July 16-19. This four-day opportunity will be a mixture of lectures and hands-on lab time. Alternatively, participants can attend remotely via web sessions.
The workshop will start off with a basic introduction to HPC, where new users can learn about using HPC clusters. In the following sessions, users will get a more in-depth look at programming, data storage and parallel computing. New and experienced users will both learn how to use Information Technology Services' HPC resources efficiently.
The MyAccess site will be unavailable from 6 to 10 p.m. Wednesday, May 23, while Information Technology Services works to redirect the application to portal.wvu.edu. During this time, employees should use wall clocks to report their hours.
When the work is complete, myaccess.wvu.edu will automatically redirect users to the Portal, where access requires both WVU credentials and two-factor authentication. You will also then be able to log into some systems from off-campus, such as Mountaineer Marketplace, MyTravel and MyExpenses.
For security reasons, Citrix (MasterApps) will still be needed to access the MyTime suite of services (Leave Request, Time Card, Web Clock and Designee) from off-campus after portal.wvu.edu replaces the MyAccess site on Sunday, May 20. MAP, Data Miner and Discoverer Reports also will require Citrix from any off-campus location.
Users who attempt to reach myaccess.wvu.edu after May 20 will automatically be redirected to the Portal, where they will log in using their WVU credentials and two-factor authentication.
Information Technology Services will scale back Service Desk hours for the summer, when call volume typically drops. Starting Monday, May 14, the hours will be 7:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday, and noon to 7 p.m. Sunday. The Service Desk will be closed on Saturdays.
After New Student Orientation is finished, the hours will change again. From July 2 through Aug. 5, the Service Desk will operate 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and be closed on weekends. Regular hours will resume Monday, Aug. 6.
Faculty, students and staff can now purchase hardware for use with two-factor authentication through the online WVU Barnes Noble bookstores. Information Technology Services recommends the use of the free Duo Mobile smartphone app, but display tokens ($24.98) are the simplest alternative for people who don’t have a smartphone.
Some Barnes Noble store sites are temporarily displaying the incorrect price. The company is aware of and in the process of correcting the errors. Staff fulfilling orders know to charge all customers $24.98.
The Mountaineer High Performance Computing System (HPC) will be retired this fall, replaced by Thorny Flat. Although Mountaineer will continue to function after June 1, the warranty on its components will expire, and ITS cannot guarantee that data can be recovered if the system fails.
