ITS recommends updating macOS High Sierra to fix security issue

Information Technology Services recommends that all employees and students using the Mac operating system High Sierra install Security Update 2017-001. Released Wednesday by Apple, this update fixes a major flaw that allows administrative access to your computer without providing a password – a security issue first disclosed publicly on Tuesday.

Apple recommends that all users install the update as soon as possible and has also started automatically installing the update on all systems running High Sierra.

If your macOS build number is 17B1002, your Mac has already been updated. To manually install the update, open your Mac App Store and you should see the update available to download. Installation does not require a restart.

This security issue does not impact any Mac operating on MacOS Sierra 10.12.6 and earlier versions. Please direct any questions to DefendYourData@mail.wvu.edu.
