MyAccess system failure will require all users to temporarily create a separate password

Any WVU employee or supervisor who needs to use over the next few days must create a new password in a separate system to complete critical payroll-signoff tasks. This temporary password will be used only for MAP (Mountaineer Administrative Processes), MyAccess, MyTime and Data Miner. Your current Login password will work for all other WVU systems.

Information Technology Services understands this is a significant inconvenience, but it is the only available workaround for an unanticipated, catastrophic failure of a key component of MyAccess. That component authenticates your Login credentials, meaning it confirms that you are entitled to the access you are requesting.

Here are the steps to take:

  1. Have your WVUID number ready. You can find it by going to and clicking on the “Forgot your WVUID?” link in the left column. Enter your birthdate and Social Security Number.
  2. Go to and click Claim/Reset Account. Fill out the information fields.
  3. To speed up the process, click “Opt Out/90 Days” to avoid completing the security quiz.
  4. Create your own new security questions.
  5. Create a password. You CAN and SHOULD use your current WVU Login password; it will be the easiest to remember.
  6. Ignore the blue button that appears. Please call the ITS Service Desk at 304-293-4444 to complete the process, and have your WVUID number handy.

This temporary solution to the problem won’t work for any employee hired after June 13, 2017. If you are in this group, you will receive separate instructions later. We apologize for the frustration this may create.

This process will ensure that all employees can submit work hours and all supervisors will be able to approve timesheets by the Monday deadline. This solution allows University business to be conducted without interruption while ITS works on a permanent solution to the underlying problem.

Employees who simply need to record hours for the next few days may do so using wall clocks.
