To improve efficiency and shift resources toward peak hours, Information Technology Services will close the Service Desk at 10 p.m. instead of midnight Sundays through Thursdays. Friday and Saturday hours will not change.
ITS is making this change because the call volume after 10 p.m. is minimal, with only about 12 calls a week during even our busiest three months of the year. The vast majority of faculty, staff and student requests for assistance come during normal WVU business hours.
From Aug. 1 through Nov. 30, for example, the Service Desk received more than 12,260 calls between the normal business hours of 7:30 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. During all other times, the volume of calls was less than 730.
Starting in January, the Service Desk hours will be:
Monday through Thursday, 7:30 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Fridays, 7:30 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Saturdays, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Sundays, 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.
We will be closed on University holidays and the associated weekends. Holiday hours for Dec. 15-16, Dec.19-22, Dec. 28-30 and Jan. 3-6 are from 7:30 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. We will resume normal operating hours on Saturday, Jan. 7.
An emergency, after-hours number remains in place for certain designated campus administrators to report problems requiring immediate ITS attention.
