To help ensure that departments and colleges are making informed decisions about whether to fix or replace machines, Information Technology Services is changing the pricing model for repairs to WVU-owned printers and computers. This change is effective July 1 and replaces what had been a flat $75 service fee that typically fails to cover the cost of repairs.
The Computer Repair and Assistance (CRA) unit will charge a $75 service fee for non-warranty equipment repairs in addition to any parts required at actual cost. An estimate will be provided for any repair that requires parts. Work will commence only after the requestor approves the charges. Warranty repairs will be completed at no charge, except when staff are required to pick up and return a machine. Only one service fee will be charged per repair, covering both diagnostics and repair activities.

Printer repairs will be charged at actual cost. ITS has price quotes for commonly repaired printers . This pricing matrix should give employees and administrators the information to decide when it’s more cost-effective to replace machines. ITS has several alternatives to support employee printing needs. The Managed Printing program offers a cheaper, greener alternative to buying, managing and servicing your own devices. Departments pay only for the cost of prints; ITS provides free installation, maintenance and repairs. Employees can also use the MyPrinting service , as long as they maintain a Mountie Bounty balance on their Mountaineer Cards.
