Nearly 13,800 users hit WVU Portal on launch day; use consistent over holidays

The WVU Portal, a new mobile-friendly application at, had nearly 13,800 unique users on the day it went live, Dec. 7, 2015, and continued to get thousands of hits every day throughout the holiday break. In its first week, the portal drew no fewer than 9,651 unique visitors per day.

For current and newly admitted students, the portal is a single gateway to critical services and applications, from logging into eCampus, Gmail and STAR to checking the status of the PRT. The tool replaces, but students and employees who type in that URL will automatically be redirected to the new site through the end of the spring semester.

Gmail, also known as MIX email, has NOT gone away. It remains accessible through Targeted messages will NOT be sent through the WVU Portal as they were in MIX. However, departments should continue to work with University Relations-Digital Services to send those messages using new tools.

Faculty and advisors also can access the new portal but see content directed specifically to them. Most instructors and advisors will NOT see the same information as student. However, an instructor who is also a student will be able to see both views by clicking on the menu. The app will automatically default to the student role.
