Fake emails circulating now are aimed at stealing WVU credentials

Emails claiming to be from the “ITS Help Desk” and warning that “email access will be denied” are fake and are aimed at stealing your credentials. Please do not respond to these emails. Just delete them.

As with most phishing scams, there are clues that the email is a fake: Hover over the sender and it shows it is not a WVU address; in this case, it comes from isu.edu. There are also grammatical errors.

Students and employees who receive suspicious looking emails should forward them as attachments to DefendYourData@mail.wvu.edu for review.

Scammers often give clues that they are not legitimate, so always look for misspelled words, email addresses and sender names that don’t match, and links embedded in the body of the message.
