The Office of Information Technology understands that sharing large files via email with both WVU and non-WVU colleagues is important. OIT provides several services to help you accomplish this goal. You can learn more about these services at http://it.wvu.edu/services/fileshare.
Filelocker is a new OIT service for sending and receiving files that are too large for email. It replaces the existing BigFiles system on April 22. Filelocker has a user-friendly interface and provides a secure mechanism to share files with both internal (WVU) and external colleagues. Visit Filelocker for more information and to login to the system.
For anyone who would like to discuss file sharing needs and options, OIT will conduct two open File Sharing Consulting times: April 17, 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. in Room G14 Evansdale Library and April 25, 10:00 a.m. – noon in Room 5104 at One Waterfront Place.
OIT plans to replace the GroupWise email system for faculty and staff later this calendar year with Microsoft Office 365. As a part of this change, some adjustments must be made to existing systems. On May 15, a 25 megabyte per message limit will be implemented on the GroupWise system. The per message limit is the total size of attachments and message content.
What will happen to existing messages over 25 megabytes? You will be able to open these messages, but will not be able to send them to anyone else.
